[Step-By-Step] How to Change Batteries in Blink Camera

Blink offers a myriad of smart security cameras such as Blink XT, Blink XT2, Blink Outdoor camera, and more!

Their whole setup works pretty well for such a low-cost price.

And that’s the reason why I’ve got a couple of them mounted at my smart home.

But since they work wirelessly, their batteries need to be changed, especially if they’re running low.

You’ll get the notification on your smart app, so you can change them right away!

So replace the dead batteries with the new batteries to get your Blink camera up and running again!

Now, if you don’t know how to change batteries in Blink Camera, fret not!

In this post, I’ll guide you on how to change the batteries in your Blink Camera with a step-by-step guide.

So let’s dive in!

Step 1: Remove the Blink camera from the mount

The first thing you need to do is to remove your camera, wherever you’ve mounted it.

So go to the location where you’ve mounted your Blink camera. And remove it by popping it out gently. You’ll hear the click sound once you pop it out with one hand!

After you’ve removed the Blink camera from the mount, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Get the Lithium Batteries

Although there are a couple of batteries available out there, you should get the Energizer Lithium Batteries.

The Energizer Lithium batteries are specifically designed for the cameras.

These types of batteries provide the best power possible to run your Blink cameras perfectly. So if you haven’t gotten a pack, make a purchase today!

Now, those of you who already have these batteries can proceed to the next step!

Step 3: Pop off the mounting point

Step 3: Pop off the mounting point

On the battery cover, you’ll see a mounting point part around the rubber nub with an arrow. You’ll have to remove it by popping it off gently. Make sure you don’t break this mounting part or the rubber nub with an arrow.

Step 4: Pull up the battery cover

Now it’s time to remove the battery cover so you can change the batteries!

Press the rubber nub with the arrow with your thumb and pull back the cover with your finger. Make sure you’re holding your camera firmly while removing the battery cover.

Also, be careful when you remove it with force. Just make sure you remove it gently without breaking it.

Step 5: Slide out the dead batteries

The battery compartment will have the two dead batteries waiting to be removed.

Now you have to carefully slide out the dead batteries one by one with your finger.

Step 6: Replace them with fresh batteries

I’m assuming you’ve already done this step since it’s fairly obvious.

However, if you haven’t, I’d recommend you to follow it.

That being said, insert the new batteries correctly in their battery compartment.

Just make sure that you match the positive (+) and negative (-) markings on the batteries with the camera.

In short, align the batteries in the same orientation as the old ones. And you’re almost done replacing the old batteries with the new ones!

Step 7: Put the battery cover back on

Finally, the old dead batteries are out and the new batteries are in!

It’s time to put the battery cover back on the camera.

To do that, just place the battery cover on the camera and give it a little push until you hear the “Click” sound.

And you’re done changing batteries in your Blink camera!

Step 8: The Blink Camera should start recording

After you’ve successfully changed the batteries, your Blink camera should start recording. The blue light should appear, indicating that it’s powered by the batteries and is ready to use.

Finally, you can mount it back to its location from where you removed it.

But before you do, check the battery level on the Blink app or ask Alexa. So you can rest assured!

I’d recommend that you use only AA lithium batteries in your Blink cameras.

They aren’t only best at performance, but they also keep the Blink cameras last longer.

Remember that regular alkaline batteries may not last as long and could negatively impact the camera’s performance. According to Blink for Home, Blink cameras are most compatible with Lithium batteries, especially non-rechargeable ones.

Can Blink camera batteries be charged?

While you might be thinking to recharge your Blink camera’s batteries, it’s best to avoid this mistake.

It is because the batteries of Blink cameras aren’t rechargeable.

So it’s recommended to use non-rechargeable AA lithium batteries for your Blink cameras.

How long does the blink camera battery last?

When it comes to battery life, the battery performance of the Blink camera is impressive. In fact, Blink cameras have a longer battery life compared to other wireless security cameras at this price point.

But depending on how you use the camera, the battery life can vary.

For example, if you live in an area where animals are around, it would trigger motion detections multiple times. This will reduce the battery life.

Besides this, other factors such as temperature and high-traffic areas could also reduce the battery life.

On average, though, the battery of a Blink camera can last as long as two years.

Though the batteries of the Blink camera are long-lasting, they can die fast because of certain reasons.

  • High activity level
  • Camera placement or mounting isn’t properly done
  • Weak Wi-Fi signals
  • Extreme temperatures
  • Outdated firmware
  • Low Battery quality
  • Faulty Hardware or software issues

The Bottom Line

When the Blink camera runs low on battery juice, you’ve no option but to change its batteries. But the good part about changing the batteries is that it’s simple if you follow the steps. Just ensure you properly replace the batteries in the Blink camera without damaging it. For that purpose, this step-by-step post guides you from removing the camera from the mount to successfully changing the batteries.

And, of course, don’t forget to use lithium batteries in your Blink camera as recommended by Blink.
